Spirit Level Collage
This is my first version of my interpretation of Spirit Level in a Collage. Posting this I am already dissatisfied with the large magenta shape in the middle of the picture. I will be able to go back and edit this in my Photoshop file where everything is on it's own layer.
I would appreciate comments and feedback about how close my interpretation matches my essays. I would like to make changes.

i like the purple rings in the background, they remind me of the planet's rings in the original artwork. :)
i like this alot.. the colors go really well together...
looks great! I couldnt figure out how to individually crop the pictures themselves, but you did a nice job combining all the layers!
i feel the magenta brings down the mood and the guitar separtes the chairs too much and the mountains make it seem likethe past. but it is a nice job!
First of all, I’m really jealous of your photoshop skills, Moxie. I feel like if I do anything successful in that program it’s because of luck. SO, I already love your collage, but my in order to get your interpretation of friendship across more in the photo you could find a different place for the guitar, I feel like it might be separating the chairs more than uniting them. Also, maybe you can put some empty cans under the chairs in the white space, to show the time they’ve spent relaxing together. Maybe you can blend in a picture of a clock or a hourglass into the background to symbolize time as well.
I think this is a great start of your own interpretation of this artwork. I think the mountains are great because they have been around forever and will always be. This symbolizes that time has passed and the people in the chairs have always been there for each other. The guitar I think could be shrank or moved because the chairs should be the center of attention. I like the idea of having some drinks under the chairs also showing that time has passed. Other than that I really like the colors that have been used. Also you have captured the idea good enough to know this was your own interpretation of the original artwork.
I really like your collage Moxie. I feel that the colors show a warm and friendly side which I believe is what you are trying to show the audience. However, I feel that the placement of the guitar might give the impression that you are trying to put something in-between the “friendship”. To me that means that maybe there is a problem in the friendship or that the friendship is not as close as one might want it to be. I feel that by moving the guitar somewhere else in the picture and perhaps making it smaller would benefit your collage.
There's no real way to tell that the chairs are connected, particularly with the guitar separating them. Maybe you could drape the guitar across the two chairs, or put something else in the picture to symbolize the connectedness?
Also, in your analysis you mentioned speed and life rushing by. There's nothing in this picture to capture that element.
I would like to say that I really like the visual comparison of the precariously balanced yellow ball to the mountains.
Some of the things that you might change are as follows: The color- It’s a very bright pink, which seems to create a feeling that may not correspond with the message that you believe is being expressed. The Guitar- The guitar seems to kind of get in the way, and its message is somehow lost in translation. Although music brings people together, a guitar can only be played by one person, and almost appears to split the two chairs apart. The background- It’s a very similar idea in relation to the original. It is also a solar system, but it is hard to identify it as such in this picture.
This is a very well put-together picture; you should not be dissatisfied with this piece. The combination of all the images together is very well done. I like how you were able to blend the images almost seamlessly; the coloration was a little screwy after you merged the images. As far as changes go, I would fill in the white areas underneath the lawn chairs. Another possible thing that you could add to the image is an element of labor or stress, it seems that you have a great grip on relaxation and leisure, but perhaps a hardship that would make you want to relax as shown in this image.
I like the colorfulness of this interpretation a lot. In your paper you talked about driving around a lot and I think it would be interesting to somehow incorporate this by maybe sneaking in a car part, like a shifter or a steering wheel or maybe somehow making it look like the viewer is in a car watching things go by. I like the idea of the two chairs being maybe where you sit with your friends but I don’t really understand the guitar, maybe if there were two guitars it would fit a bit more into the interpretation that you made.
I really like the different uses of color you have. However, to show friends coming together, you could change the dark purple background to a lighter shade or even a lighter, more friendly color all together. This would make it look much more "happier" by making it brighter. You could also change the color of the chairs. You could make them the same color to show friendship. This would show true friendship and similarness between two bestfriends. The chairs could also be more "cushiney". By making them more comfortable, they would seem more relaxed, becasue when a person is with a good friend, they are usually relaxed and completley comfortable. This would show being happy. I would keep the guitar, because that shows friendlyness and welcoming. I would simply make it smaller.
Moxie this is really neat. I like how all you images seem to have a pinkish effect, its bring everything together as if it were one. I see you did a good job cutting you images out of their original backgrounds. Did you use two lawn chairs because their was two glasses in Cornells creation? The blue circle layer with the seasons listed on it is awesome its goes with Cornells original creation well. In addition the mountain range really pulls this whole project together. However I’m not quite sure the reason behind the guitar being in your picture
I can see how your collage could be an interpretation of the piece of art you chose. I see how the two chairs represent two people and friendship. I feel that the single guitar doesn’t go with the collage because one person can play the guitar. It could have been put next to one of the chairs with another instrument near the other. Also the chart could be clearly defined behind the chairs to replace the white, maybe extend the pinkish purple down to the grass at the bottom. Or maybe instead of instruments you could replace the guitar with a chess board or other game on the table.
i really liked how you used the lawn chairs, but just in my own point of view i thought that rocking chairs that had somehow a loan guitar in one and a loan base sitting in the other would really be neat way to represent two friends together without them really being there! other then that i thought it was a nice job and i am going to have to learn how to overlap pictures like that without having them look block like on top of one another. I could not figure out who one of the people were that had my picture that is why i commented on yours.
I like how you interoperated the picture as two friends hanging out and bonding while drinking. I like how you used the two chairs to represent the two people. There was also two glasses in the original so maybe put some glasses on the table two enforce your interpretation. I dont really understand what the guitar is but it seems like you wanted it to be the main focus putting right in the center. The white between the chairs is to plain maybe let the map go all the way to the bottom. Also a little more color would have been interesting.
I think that your collage is a great interpretation of the way you see the artwork. One thing that I don't particularly like is the guitar that you have in the center. I think that its a bit distracting from the whole collage and could do without it. Something that I do like about your picture are the two lawn chairs. I think that what they represent fits in with your theme. The colors that you chose all seem to go with each other aside from the purple back round. I think all the colors are pastelish looking and the purple doesn't really fit in that well. Another thing that I like about the picture are the mountains that you have set up in the back round. I think that it creates a really cool look to your picture. One last thing that I might change is the white spots that you have under the chairs. I might try and add something in there.
hey mox! I really like your collage. The colors you chose to work with are great and the mountains in the background really make the picture. What I really like about your collage is how you have the two chairs as in two friends, and I was reading the other comments on this collage and I have to disagree with one of the girls. She said that she feels the guitar is seperating the two chairs, but I feel like the guitar brings the two chairs together. To me music just makes everything feel good and brings people together, especially the guitar. Nice work Mox!
I enjoyed reading about your interpretation, and comparing it to what you have created. I found the lawn chairs to be a creative way of comparing it kind of to the drink glasses. However, I would recommend not making the guitar the focus of your collage. My eyes automatically see it first as it is a bold color, a large image, and it is placed directly among the center of your other objects; unless, of course, that was your intent. Besides that, your colors and shapes easy for the viewer to look at, and it came out really great.
