Grading all written assignments

Editing process--Grammar, Paragraphs, Commas
Dearest blogging students, getting the conventions of English right is your responsibility. I won't read work with grammar and spelling boo-boos. I can recognize typos such as to, too, two and there, their which are missed by the spell checker. I have a tendency to let them go but they may effect your grade.

Cutting and pasting from word programs may be problematic. There are spell checkers for browsers and you can always save a word document after editing in a *.txt format and then past it in.

Asking someone to look at your work and edit it for punctuation, grammar and spelling is not cheating. I have a standing offer if you go to work on a paper at the writing center, I give extra credit.

Plagerism however is VERY VERY BAD...


Actual Grading Criteria
  • Beginning/Ending

A knock out beginning and ending is what convinces the reader... this is something GOOD!

  • Flow--use of words. Sentence Flow--

Transitions from one paragraph to the next. Did I mention I like paragraphs (at least three) and commas. One big paragraph and no commas, doesn't flow very well.

  • Clarity of idea

Maintain focus, maintain your writer's voice.

Good enough=C

Pretty Good=B

Knock'em dead=A
